Know what exactly it is and its various types
Motherhood is one of the greatest feelings that a woman can ever have! But, not every woman is fortunate enough to be blessed with this! Owing to certain medical conditions, age or any other unexplained infertility issues, if a woman fails to give birth to her own child she does not need to feel helpless. She can still be a mother, all thanks to surrogacy!

Before we get to know it’s different types, let us first know what exactly surrogacy is.

What is Surrogacy?
Surrogacy is a process wherein any female who wants to be a mother but incapable of giving birth contacts other fertile woman (the surrogate mother) to become pregnant for her. The process takes place under a legal agreement and the embryo is created by in-vitro fertilization or IVF technology (outside the body) and then it is implanted to the surrogate mother womb who is also known as gestational carrier. Embryo is created using egg and sperms of intended parents who decide to opt for surrogacy.

Types of Surrogacy:
Primarily, there are two types: gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. In the former case egg is removed from the intended mother or any other anonymous donor and it is fertilized by the sperm of either the intended father or any other donor. This fertilized egg or embryo is then implanted to the womb of a surrogate mother who carries the fetus for a full-term. The child born by this method has the genes of intended mother and father.

The latter case or the traditional surrogacy refers to the condition where in surrogate mother is artificially inseminated either by intended father or any other donor and carries the baby in her full-term. In this case the born child is related to surrogate mother providing eggs or intended/anonymous father (donor of the sperms).
